Camp is now open and the Youth program is in full swing.  SLOW DOWN when you enter the gates to Camp.  Be alert to your surroundings and the presence of children and NO PARKING at your cottages.  The Curfew is also in full effect, refer to your Rules and Regulations book or the Turner Website (illinoisturners.org) for those curfew times.

CAMP COMMITTEE - We continue to have problems with parking by the cottages and as a result will begin sending letters to first time violators.  If the letter notification doesn't work, we will implement fines for future infractions.  The Camp Committee does NOT want to have to police this issue, but it continues in spite of multiple requests to stop parking.  Everyone has been given amnesty, so it is a clean slate.  Don't park by your cottage and you won't get a letter.  Thank you for respecting this ITC rule and no further action will occur.
This weekend we will have our Youth Concert on Friday and Tom's Special Dinner at 6:00 and the Class of "68" live entertainment on Saturday.  Come on down and join in the fun and meet up with new and old friends. See you around Camp - Camp Committee

FROM THE KITCHEN - Restaurant - this week's Fish Fry Special is a grilled Maxwell Street Polish Sausage Sandwich with grilled onions & sport peppers.  Saturday night Tom Webb's crew will be serving up Chicken Fried Steak and the regular grill items.  Following the dinner will be the Class of 68 Band. And don't forget the Tweenie Pancake Breakfast and raffle on the 4th of July in the dining hall.  Thanks, Scott

ART STUDIO – Hi All! Welcome back to the 2024 season at TCAS. We now have a Facebook Page and are on Instagram.  My apologies for slacking on the weekly emails this year. It was a slow start due to having knee replacement surgery.
Here is what is happening this week.

For this class, we are using windows & picture frames.  See below for the one I created before camp opened this year. If you have an idea, bring it in! $20 covers the supplies & a lot of glue!
Please message me if you have any questions. Thank you, Sonia Gebhardt

CAMP COMMITTEE - After a busy Spring of work on the Rathskellar we are on the eve of opening up.  This Friday (6/14) we will open for our first Fish Fry of the season.  We will also have ticket books and pool tags available for everyone who has paid their ground lease in full, look for the table when you come in.  If you have a balance on your ground lease, they will  accept payment (cash or money order) and you will receive your ticket books and pool tags.  There will be no access to the Pool or Youth program until your ground lease is paid in full.
The Youth program will begin this Monday (6/17) at the A-Field at 9:00.  There will be a mandatory Parent/Guardian meeting at 9:00 on Saturday 6/15 at the Raths to review the changes to the Youth program and the need for parent participation.  Many families are moving back out to Camp, so slow down when you are driving, be alert for the children and NO PARKING at your cottage unless unloading or approved by the District Council.
It was reported to the Camp Committee that on 5/28 a propane tank was taken from the Krausser cottage #159.  The cottage owner is requesting whoever borrowed it or may find it, to please return it.  Check your Turner Camp Calendar routinely as activities are starting up quickly this Summer.  Looking forward to a Happy, Healthy and Fun Summer.  Thank you! Camp Committee

CAMP COMMITTEE - Cottage Owners, we have a big holiday weekend coming up with plenty of activities at Camp - check this bulletin and flyers in the rest rooms for events and times.  As has been discussed before, we will not be allowing fireworks in Camp!!  Fireworks are illegal in Illinois, inside Camp and our insurance is at risk.  Add the drought conditions we are in and the risk just isn't worth it.  There are plenty of shows around the area, we encourage those who would like to see a show to attend one of theirs.  2023 Ground leases were due in December 2022 and we still have some outstanding balances.  We will be available this Friday night to take payments or they can be left in the ITC Office mailbox at the front gate.  Outstanding balances beyond this weekend, will have cottages locked and privileges revoked (Youth program, Swimming Pool access, ticket book access, etc).  Please avoid these inconveniences by zeroing out your balance. Thank you, Camp Committee

COTTAGE OWNERS- We have been contacted by our waste disposal company that our dumpsters are overloaded and we have been fined.  The dumpsters are for trash only during the season  - No TVs, No mattresses, etc.  We need to use that space for the cottage trash that we all generate.  Also, the area down by the Rathskellar garage is not a metal recycling zone.  If you have large appliances (from Camp only) that need to be recycled please contact the caretaker (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) to determine if there is a scheduled pick up.  The scrappers come by infrequently and we don't have enough parking in the area to lose spots due to long term recycling storage. Thanks for your attention to these matters,   Caretaker

PLEASE MAKE SURE I HAVE THE CORRECT TIME/DATE.  I CAN’T COPY AND PASTE OFF OF A FLYERS OR A PDF.  IT NEEDS TO BE WRITTEN IN A FORMAT TO CUT AND PASTE.  If you have any questions please text or call me 847-361-3367. Thank you, Chris

CAMP COMMITTEE - The first week of the Program is complete and many are returning to Turner Camp.  It is good to catch up with so many friends after a long winter break.  We remind all of you of the upcoming Cottage Owners meeting (new owners 9:00, existing owners 10:00) on June 25th at the Rathskellar.  It is a way off, but we want to give everyone enough advance notice.  This is the perfect opportunity to hear about what is going on around Camp and ask some questions, if you have any.  We also want to remind all cottage owners there will be NO FIREWORKS allowed in Turner Camp this season.  As we discussed in the email to all cottage owners in May, it is illegal in Illinois and our new Insurance policies are at risk if we don't follow these laws.  Finally, if you are not receiving emails from the Camp Committee, please send an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and give us your preferred email address.  We will add you to the list.  We blind copy (bcc) all emails, so your email information will not be broadly spread. Enjoy the Summer,  Camp Committee

CAMP COMMITTEE - As we approach a new Summer Season, we are looking forward to seeing all of you back at Camp.  There has been a great deal of work done on cottages and their exteriors this Winter and Spring.  THANK YOU all for your efforts in helping clean-up and beautifying Camp.  Please remember that with the program officially starting on 6/5, all outside work needs to be completed by 6/4.  Likewise with the children back in the program, we ask that you minimize your driving to your cottage as much as possible.  The kids in Camp have a very unique environment that offers them a great deal of freedom.  They are going to the playground, visiting friends' cottages and walking around Camp often without adult supervision.  We adults need to be on the lookout for them, driving to and from the cottages increases the risk of accidents.  We are all looking for a fun and safe Summer - lets begin establishing good practices right away. Thank you, Camp Committee

RESTARUANT - The Restaurant crew is back and ready for a great 2023 season.  Please be understanding and aware our menu pricing reflects the prices we are paying for products.  Some surprised us as well.  But the cost is the cost.  Here's the line up for this weekend.
Friday Fish fry and Smoked Butt mitt kraut special - come get your German on early!
Saturday Grill & Spider's Italian Beefs Special - what's your beef?

    Next week:
Friday Fish Fry and Maxwell Street Polish Plate - come get your Chicago on!
Saturday Grill & Spider's Pulled Pork Special - come check out Spider's secret sauce!
Meat the Restaurant Crew - we'll spotlight one member each week.

Donna Litza - Restaurant Committee co-chair, Donna comes from great Turner Camp genes.  Her mother Barb "Sarge" Gebhardt was our long-time (40 years?) Restaurant Chairman.  Donna continues the great family tradition and plans our entire restaurant schedule, lines up the cooks, plans the menu, lines up the cooks, gets things started in the spring, and brings things to a close in the fall.  In addition, that, she and her crew put on a number of Sunday meals as well.  Thanks Donna!

CAMP - Camp is in full swing, and we hope you are enjoying your time out here.  With the start of Camp though we need to review a few of the rules; Minors in Camp and use of Rider Mowers. From the Rules and Regulations booklet and Illinoisturners.org website - Minors - Minors under the age of eighteen(18) are not allowed to occupy any cottage or building on Turner Camp property unless a responsible member is staying with them.
A legal guardian, or designated adult must remain on campgrounds while the child participates in any program activity or event.  Arrangements must be made with the camper should the supervising adult change.
Staff must be notified of the designated adult should it be different from the adult on the registration paperwork. To notify, please complete the Google Form by clicking https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfAHwyc5G0lZZEOu9LXQmJsnXvhUq7bvL4lQ5KgK6Axe_NW6g/viewform?usp=sf_link or the link located at illinoisturners.org.
This form must be completed each time there is a change to the designated adult - failure to do so may result in exclusion from program activities.
Rider Mowers - Riding mowers are approved for grass/general maintenance at and around your cottage.  Riding mowers are NOT approved as a mode of transportation around Turner Camp.  If you are significantly limited in your ability to get around Camp, then please contact the Turner Camp Committee via This email address is being protected from spambots. Introducing two more of the Restaurant Team members who help make things happen.
Mary Becker - Mary is married to Dick Becker, comes from the Mutert clan, and is a lifelong Turner.  Mary is instrumental in coordinating the set up of the serving area for the Fish Fru every Friday and getting thye serving volunteers set up as they come on board.  She also puts the pots, pans, and utensils away after each meal and cleans up the kitchen area to keep us health department inspection ready.  Finally, she works with the folks holding special events like parties, celebrations, and Memorials to help ensure the events go smoothly.  Rumor has it she ran the kitchen sanitation program at Annapolis.  She runs a tight ship!  Get that lady a coffee!

Timmy Zbinden - Timmy is married to Judy Zbinden and is another lifelong Turner.  In fact, almost every week we hear another story about what went on in his family cottage down by the river.  Timmy plays the key role of the gofer on Friday Nights.  He goes for food, he goes for supplies, and he goes for anything.  He went missing from camp a while in the 70s and 80s.  Rumor has it he spent time in a hippie commune and traveled the  country in an old bread truck.  When he returned to camp after sowing his wild oats, he joined the Fish Fry Crew.  Get that man an edible!
    Thanks, Scott

RECYCLING - We want to update everyone on the recycling capabilities at Camp.  The service we use has tightened their enforcement of recycling vs commingled trash in the recycling bins.  As a result, our recycling bins were not being emptied and yet Camp was being charged every time they came out to collect. This created both a sanitary challenge as well as a costly activity, that resulted in our recycling bins overflowing.  The decision for this Summer was to remove the recycling bins and replace them with regular trash bins.  We still support recycling and would ask you to bring your recyclables home at the end of the weekend or utilize one of the recycling centers around Camp (eg. Algonquin Township).  We appreciate your thoughts on this issue (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) but we don't have the manpower to monitor the recycling bins to ensure commingled trash doesn't go into them.  Cory Litza - Cottage Owners President

CAMP COMMITTEE INFORMATION - Please check the weekly bulletins for upcoming events as well as the illinoisturners.org website.  Both resources capture; calendar, useful information and updates to activities and events happening in and around Camp.  We would also suggest you send suggestions and concerns to the Camp email  (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) to ensure your input is heard.  You will find posters around Camp with this email information and a QR code that you can scan with your phone, and it will take you directly to the email location. This email is monitored daily and responses back within 72 hours are expected.  Finally, we all need to do our part to keep our Turner Camp community safe.  If you are feeling any symptoms, even minor, please avoid all the public spaces at Camp (Raths, bathrooms, Pool, etc).  We are trying to keep Camp open in a safe and responsible manner and it is up to all of us to do our part to keep each other safe. If you are unable to fill one of your assigned duties due to COVID symptoms or a positive test, send your specific information to the email  This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and we will work to backfill your position.

Excitement for another Summer at Camp is building and with that comes opportunities for us to support our favorite programs; Tweenies, Juniors, Art Studio, Ladies Auxiliary, Tuna etc. One particular fundraiser that has done well in the past is clothing/towels/bags using the Turner emblem or ITC logo. The Turner emblem and ITC logo have been reserved for the Youth Committee and have supported specific programs they are funding for Camp's children. To maximize your efforts and minimize overlap, please bring your fundraising ideas to the next Camp Committee meeting or send them into This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. for further discussion and approval. Thank you and see you all out at Camp - Camp Committee

We've switched from filets to ribeye's for the steak dinner.
Keep in mind we are experiencing the supply issues the rest of the world is facing.  So, if things aren't exactly as you remember them, it is likely due to that.
Finally, let's introduce you to the Restaurant & Fish Fry team.  We'll do a couple each week and start with the newest.
Donna Litza - a lifelong Turner who grew up in Turner Camp.  She has been involved in the Restaurant for years, ably assisting her mother and longtime restaurant chairperson Barb Gebhart, AKA Sarge.  Donna has captained many meals over the years and this year took on the menu planning and scheduling for the restaurant to get us ready for the season.  She also provided the lunch meals for the work days, is helping with the weekly shopping, and is leading some Sunday evening meals.  We appreciate Donna's help and experience.  Get her a Chardonnay!
Randy Gunderson - has been a Turner for around 10+ years.  His wife Karin has been running the Candy Store with Donna Sawicki for years.  Us guys felt bad for Randy sitting at the bar on Friday's all by his lonesome.  So, we invited him to help us out on Fridays when we had an absence.  Then last year he became a full-time member of the team when Jim Gerstbrein went down in Spring Training with an injury.  Randy worked out so well he's become an integral part of the team, allowing Tom Webb to devote his energies to making Saturday nights great again.  His union steward Randy Roe predicts he won't be a journeyman fry guy for long.  We appreciate Randy's help and easy-going personality.  Get that man a Millers!
    Thanks, Scott

YOUTH - Hello again, Turners! This first week of the Youth Program went amazingly. On the field this week, the campers practiced “Ultimate Games,” such as Ultimate Frisbee, and the staff got to meet all the new campers coming in from Tiny Tots. They have adapted well and are doing great in Program so far! The Campers of the Week for Week 1 are Delaney Flowers and Talyn Reeves! They did great by participating, having positive attitudes, and listening well to directions. We’re so proud of them!
The pool opened on Thursday, June 9th, and we got to have lessons for two days, despite the rain! The campers loved being in the water again after all this time. The Beginners Swimmer of the Week was Weston Becker for staying in the water and listening to directions. The Advanced Beginners Swimmer of the Week was Frankie for spaying attention while the instructors were speaking. The Intermediates Swimmer of the Week was Quinn Sandine for always trying to improve. The Swimmers Swimmer of the Week was Sam Moore for keeping a good attitude and swimming the whole time. Staff appreciates these hard-working campers!
Tiny Tots this week went great! The Tiny Tot Campers of the Week are Vini Bialk and Beatriz Adams! They had fun making crafts, doing gymnastics, and participating in swimming lessons, even when the water was cold! We have such a great group of little ones this year.
Next week is Rock Concert Week, which means we will have our annual Rock Concert after awards at 7 PM on Friday, June 17th! We can’t wait to see what the campers come up with. Thank you all for a great start to our summer!
